Sweet and Quick

I received this book as a free gift from Harlequin, but I liked the cover, so it did not take me long to get around to reading it. Normally, I find Harlequin romances formulaic in format and rather predictable. This book was a bit better than most, maybe because this is the second book that I have read by RaeAnne Thayne.
I found the situation that put a Hollywood socialite at the mercy of a random cowboy / army major to be a little unbelievable, but once the plot moved past the initial stages, I liked the chemistry between Mimi Van Hoyt and Brant Western. The two characters were in many ways complete opposites, but they still complemented each other. It was hugely ironic that Mimi became homemaker to Brant's place -- nesting syndrome was kicking in early. I also did not expect the period of separation, though it fit with Brant's military duties.
This book was a sweet, quick read that made me smile.

genuine "like" turns to true love

This is the first book that I have read from RaeAnne Thayne's extended book series, "Cold Creek Cowboys", and it won't be the last! Major Brant Western is on a leave of duty from his military tour in Afghanistan. Settling in at his snow-bound family ranch in eastern Idaho, Brant looks forward to peace and privacy, and a chance to heal from the recent battle deaths of several men under his command. His solitude is shattered by the spectacular car-crash arrival of socialite-in-disguise, Mimi Van Hoyt. Seemingly a paparazzi princess who delights in scandalous and newsworthy behavior, Mimi stuns Brant by calling herself "Maura Howard" and acting nothing like a spoiled socialite. Soon Mimi/Maura and her little dog, Simone, have both charmed and disarmed Major Western--and he wouldn't have it any other way! This man and woman both have issues going back to unhappy childhoods, and neither of them is really quite how they first appear to each other. They genuinely like one another, and a mutual attraction begins to build heat. Can they overcome their obvious lifestyle differences, and the secret that Mimi holds so dear, and find the love to last a lifetime? A true "protector" hero, and a very appealing heroine make this a most enjoyable romance read. I so looking forward to meeting the rest of the "Cold Creek Cowboys"!

Cute & Clean Romance!

My Opinion:
Cute, clean and fun. It was a sweet story of a socialite that changes her ways because she is pregnant. She wants to clean up her act and I for one liked that she wanted to change and develop. After all she had been given everything all her life and now she wanted to change for her baby. It was a sweet story of love. I enjoyed Major Brant and his delicate way he had with her. It was a sweet romance. It was not overly dramatic. The story flowed smoothly and was written well. It moved along at a steady pace and I enjoyed it.
I give A Cold Creek Secret by RaeAnne Thayne 4 of 5 stars.
